Work in Progress, 7

November 28, 2009 – 7:08 pm

Working on some pieces for two exhibitions due next week. Here’s the inked version for “What I Always Wanted”. As usual my link to the theme is somewhat tenuous and cryptic.

justwhat

It’s kind of a bit weird and daunting working on a larger scale than I’d normally be used to and also not having the luxury of the computer to fix all my sloppy mistakes. Ah well I’m enjoying it, next: to do the colours.

Phils amazing poster for the exhibition is below.

Handmade Minicomics

November 25, 2009 – 5:11 pm

Each Morning My Heart Fills With Joy at The Prospects of the New Day

I promised that I would post the results of last weeks Work In Progress post when I had assembled the mini comics. Well here it is: a teeny weeny mini comic assembled from one piece of A4 paper, cleverly trimmed and folded into a booklet. I’ll have it up in the shop soon, I imagine. More images below the cut.

Work in Progress, Week 6

November 20, 2009 – 5:11 pm

EMMH4

With both Thought Bubble and Independents Day coming up this weekend, I’ve been working on a little mini comic to have at the conventions as I have no new longer comics ready to go. Although I technically finished all the drawing and scanning yesterday, it still has to be assembled into it’s teeny tiny little booklet form. Anyway here are a couple of snippets from “Each Morning My Heart Fills With Joy At The Prospects Of The New Day”. I’ll take some photos of the finished minicomics when I have them printed and folded tomorrow.

More images below the cut.

John Peel vs Polish Death Metal

November 17, 2009 – 11:40 am

John Peel

Here’s some more illustrations from drop-d’s  series of articles remembering influential musical personalities. They’re quick and fun to do with a good bit of variety in the people that I’ve been asked to illustrate. Case in point being one week it’s the veritable  granddad of indie-rock journalism, John Peel, and the next it’s Witold Kieltyka, the talented young drummer from the Polish “technical death metal” band Decapitated.

As a slight digression, I just love the labeling of sub genres of sub genres of heavy metal, no other scene even comes close to that level of obsession in giving any slight variation in style it’s own specific title (Well, probably techno does, come to think of it). In the research for the Witold Kieltyka piece I lost a couple of hours in learning the minute differences between technical death metal, black metal, blackened death metal, and death doom metal. Fascinating.

Anyway, I’m not sure if the John Peel article has gone up yet but you can read all about Witold Kieltyka, or Vitek as he was known by the fans, right here

Also, don’t forget Independents Day is this Sunday. It should be a great day all round. Comics, zines, readings, musical performances, workshops and film screenings galore.

Here are a couple of pages from the next Last Bus that I’ve been inking yesterday and today. Still a lot of cleaning up to be done, but though I might give you a sneak preview of how the comic is progressing.
